Hi, I'm Amy Farnham, the author of this newsletter. A decade ago, I had some deep spiritual experiences by an Alaskan creek, on land long stewarded by the Dena'ina people. Those experiences inspired me to pursue a more abundant and authentic life. I began to discover my inner wisdom—and followed it out of my marriage, the Republican party, the evangelical church, and my 9–5 office job. That was just the beginning of what I know will be a lifelong adventure, as I find more and more ways to connect more deeply with myself and the world around me. My journey has inspired me to help others find their paths to healthier life ways and deeper belonging.

So much of our American way of life is harmful to us and to the world around us. This Isn’t It is my newsletter about unraveling the default American mindset to find a better path, both individually and collectively. It’s filled with insights from time spent with non-human friends on the trail and in the garden as well as wisdom from human beings on the margins who have guided my journey.

This Isn't It is a reader-supported publication. Everyone who signs up for a subscription gets access to all of the great newsletter content, but paid subscriptions and one-time gifts keep the lights on.

Here's what to expect from the newsletter:

Monthly Full Moon Essays about unraveling the default American mindset to find deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us.

Monthly New Moon Reading Reports about something topical I've read recently.

Midweek Gentle Turning Practices: This meditative activity helps you connect to yourself and the world around you. It is easy to fit into 5 minutes of your day wherever you are. Journals are helpful but not required.

• Permission to comment on posts.

I provide audio recordings of all of my newsletter content. I also try to keep each publication short, a tidbit of wisdom that will stick in the back of your mind and unfold for you over the course of your day or week. You should be able to read it in five minutes or less. (Even if you're a slow reader like me.)

I hope you enjoy this newsletter as much as I enjoy writing it! Wishing you a lifetime of connection and meaning,

Amy Farnham
